Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) is the first higher education institution in Germany which combines on-the-job training and academic studies and, therefore, achieves a close integration of theory and practice.

Loerrach & surroundings

You will be studying in Germany, but you can be in Switzerland or France in 30min by bike or 10min by train from Loerrach. You can enjoy the beautiful nature of the Black Forest, the art and urban charm of Basel and the delicate food of France right at your hand. Loerrach is a peaceful and safe town of 50,000 inhabitants, surrounded by nature.

The exchange program at DHBW Loerrach is an unforgettable moment in my life. This program allowed me to learn about the culture of Germany, to meet people from all around the globe and to make new friends. The classes had some practical and real life cases, so it was easier to understand. There was a German language class for beginner, it helped me a lot to communicate with people outside the university, especially for daily life during my stay in Loerrach. Overall, I enjoyed my 3 months stay in Germany, it taught me a lot of new things, more than I expected. Thanks DHBW!

My semester at DHBW Loerrach was an exceptional opportunity to get to know different students from different regions of Germany and Europe and to learn about their countries and cultures. I would recommend visiting a lot of museums and castles. Loerrach borders three different countries, which are France, Switzerland and Germany, so it is an amazing spot. At the end, I recommend any student that wants to study abroad, that DHBW Loerrach is the best place that you can come to. Everything is perfect with the university and the environment. I had not faced any problem here, and I had a lot of fun, experience, learning, everything. Do not be afraid to ask or entertain with anybody of DHBW Loerrach, definitely they will be nice and helpful to you.

I enjoyed studying at DHBW Loerrach, because I got the opportunity not only to study in the classrooms but also the chance to join the field trip programs from which I got a lot of learning experiences. The lecturers explain both in theory and based on facts that happen in reality. Beyond the above learning experiences, this student exchange program gave me the opportunity to get experiences from traveling, learned new cultures, and made new friends. The most memorable thing for me about Loerrach is that it is a beautiful small city which is comfortable to live in. The strategic location of Loerrach which located close to Switzerland and French borders made it easy to travel to neighbor countries. I am glad to be able to spend my semester in DHBW Loerrach!

Semester Exchange

Academic courses

Students from our partner universities worldwide are welcome to study for one or two terms on our campus in Loerrach. The exchange program is the right choice if you want to study at undergraduate level and gain up to 30 ECTS within a semester. We offer courses which are taught entirely in English. Students who have an advanced knowledge of German have the opportunity to choose courses from our German study programs.

You can choose classes in the fields of Business studies (with a focus on either Global Business and Digital Innovation or Global Healthcare Innovation and Sustainable Business Practices), Engineering or IT.

Students from our partner universities, who have an advanced knowledge of German and would like to study in German at DHBW Loerrach, have the opportunity to choose courses from our regular German Bachelor degree programs.

Application

We welcome applications from current students from our international partner universities. To find out if there is an agreement between your home university and DHBW Loerrach, please check with your local International Office or ERASMUS+ / International Exchange coordinator. You have to be nominated by your home University in order to study at DHBW Loerrach.

After being nominated by your home University you have until:

31.05.2025 to complete your application for the fall term 2025

Learning Agreements

The Learning Agreements (Business Administration) are sorted according to each term. Please print the appropriate Learning Agreement and tick the courses that you would like to join. Please have the Learning Agreement signed by your coordinator and add it to your application documents.

Financial Support

International Exchange Students have the chance of getting a scholarship through one of our programs.
Once your home university nominates you to the DHBW Loerrach, you will obtain information on how to apply for a study period at the DHBW Loerrach and also for a funding by the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM or a Stibet I scholarship from the International Office of the DHBW Loerrach.

Preconditions for eligibility to apply for a scholarship:

you are enrolled in one of our partner universities around the globe
you will study at the DHBW Loerrach as an exchange student via an exchange program
you prove an outstanding academic performance (Transcript of Records of your home university)

In Relation to other stipends

Please note, that you cannot receive a funding by the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM or by Stibet I additionally to an Erasmus+ grant or other stipends, which are meant to support your studies. Please contact our International Office if you have any questions referring to this issue.

Costs

No program fees! Participants cover the following estimated expenses:

Accommodation: ~€500 (shared double hotel room, excl. breakfast)
Meals: ~€40–50/day (based on preferences)
Transport & Entry Fees: ~€100 (local excursions included)
Travel to/from Loerrach: Self-arranged.

Note: DHBW Loerrach covers lecture costs and select transportation. Adequate travel/health insurance and compliance with all entry and visa requirements is required. Prices subject to change.
